United 4 Equality ~ Save the Date
Thursday, March 22, 2012
11:00am to 1:00pm
Senate Russell Office Building Room 385, Constitution Ave. & 1st Street, Washington, DC
Join United 4 Equity, LLC, women's groups and feminist friends as we celebrate a huge milestone for the ERA 2015 campaign! Witness the 112th Senate make history for Women across America. For the first time, the U.S. Senate will consider removing the deadline for ratification of the 1972 Equal Rights Amendment.
Senator Ben Cardin (MD) to introduce on March 22nd, the companion resolution to HJ Res. 47:Removing the Deadline for Ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. This new strategy for achieving ERA was proposed by United 4 Equality, LLC on behalf of its ERA coalition members across the country. Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (WI), previously introduced HJ Res. 47 on the 100thanniversary of International Women’s Day, March 8, 2011. The ERA is important to U.S. foreign policy because how can the U.S. lead others to curb the human rights abuses of women and girls abroad while denying American women and girls constitutional equality at home.
In honor of International Women’s Day 2012, Senator Cardin disseminated his ‘Dear Colleague’ letter and joint resolution Click here PDF-ERA-SEN.CARDIN.pdf. Senator Cardin’s original co-sponsors include Senator Barbara Mikulski (MD) and Senator Robert Menendez (NJ). Both senators join Cardin to support the 3-state approach as well as Senator Menendez’s joint resolution for a new ERA amendment with Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney.
We would greatly appreciate your presence and support for Congress’s bold response on behalf of women across America. If you’d like to help contact original cosponsors for the Cardin/Baldwin bills, reply to firstname.lastname@example.org for support materials.
On March 22, 1972, forty years ago, the ERA passed the Senate for the first time and was sent out to the states for ratification. Back then, as Delegate to the MD General Assembly, Ben Cardin voted yes and helped pass the ERA in MD on March 24, 1972! Now, we stand proud by his renewed commitment and partnership with Congresswoman Baldwin (now running for Senate) to push ERA back out to the states for completion!
RSVP to Holly Joseph if you plan to attend and would like to be added to the agenda for brief remarks at: email@example.com.
