The Maryland Commission for Women will induct six accomplished women into the 26th annual Maryland Women’s Hall of Fame during Women’s History month on March 29, 2011, 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at the Miller Senate Office Building in Annapolis. Each year the Maryland Commission for Women and Women Legislators recognize women of high achievement. The selected honorees’ contributions have made significant and lasting impressions in the environment, science and technology, education, the arts, social justice, civil rights, the armed services, and religion. The Maryland Women’s Heritage Center in Baltimore houses the Hall of Fame.

March is Women's History Month, says the Maryland Office of Tourism, an ideal time to plan springtime visits across the state that evoke tribute to notable women in Maryland history.

The Maryland Women’s Heritage Center will highlight Maryland women artists with an art exhibition in conjunction with Women’s History Month. “Women’s Art, Women’s Vision: Over 50 & Fabulous” will be on display at the World Trade Center in Baltimore (401 East Pratt Street) and runs Monday, March 7 – Friday, April 1. A reception with the artists takes place Tuesday, March 8, 5 – 7 p.m. Both the exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.
House Bill 157 Proclaims March 8 as Maryland Women's History Day

House Bill 157 will be introduced by Delegate Barbara Robinson in the Maryland House of Delegates on Wednesday, February 9. The new bill requires the Governor to annually proclaim March 8 as Maryland Women’s History Day in the state of Maryland, a move strongly supported by the Maryland Women’s Heritage Center.

The Maryland Women’s Heritage Center, the first comprehensive state-based center and museum of its kind in the United States, is set to open its initial home in Baltimore at 39 West Lexington Street at the corner of Lexington and Liberty Streets. A special invitation-only grand opening celebration is Tuesday, May 25, at 10:30 a.m., and the official public opening takes place Saturday, June 19.
