The Center
...................................................................................................................
Although women comprise slightly more than half the population of Maryland, their extraordinary accomplishments have largely been invisible. This absence deprives the youth of our state of inspiring role models and stories of achievement and success. Our state’s history has been incomplete.
The Maryland Women’s Heritage Center and Museum (MWHC) will address this deficit. As the only state-based women’s heritage center in the nation, it will offer the people of Maryland a unique opportunity to recognize and learn from women’s past and present achievements, and to come together to shape a better future for the girls and boys, women and men of our state.
The Center will be many things. It will stand as a permanent recognition of the achievements of Maryland’s notable women and the countless unsung heroines who have shaped generations of Marylanders. It will be a dynamic and interactive museum, and a resource for education and scholarship. It will serve as a meeting place for myriad groups that address women’s concerns. And it will be a venue for performances and events that celebrate Maryland women artists.
Above all, the MWHC will be a place of learning and inspiration for all Marylanders, and especially for our future leaders in all walks of life.
The Maryland Women’s Heritage Center will feature:
- Permanent and changing exhibits about individuals,
events and special topics.
